Bullriding princess goes to the extreme
By Corinne Hautala
KHAS-TV
6/19/2007
She holds the title many young girls dream of. Abby McDonald from Aurora is an Extreme Princess. Just like all 9–year–olds, Abby has some ideas of what she wants to do this summer.
“Swim, ride my bike, play softball,” said Abby.
But unlike her friends, she does not have to play dress up to be a princess. The tiara and sash are the real thing.
She is the reigning 'Extreme Bullriding Princess.'
She travels wherever the bull riders go.
“They have had queens, but I think I am the first princess,” Abby said.
...A title she takes seriously. At each bull riding show, she runs a raffle contest. 50 percent of the money raised goes to the winner, the other 50 is suppose to go to her.
“I was like, 'Mom, instead of me taking my money for travel expenses, can I give my half to Sara?'” said Abby.
She had recently met and instantly became connected to Sara, a Grand Island women battling breast cancer.
“We stop to see her a lot,” said Abby.
So after her parents agreed, Abby's mission as 'Extreme Princess' became to help her.
“I want to save someone's daughter, mother, sister. I want to save someone's life,” said Abby.
She has given up her half of every raffle contest to raise more than $3,000 for the Susan G. Kolman Foundation and for her friend Sara.
“It makes me feel really happy inside and so many people why take that to invent something,” said Abby.
“She is amazing. She has a chance to keep money and do whatever she wants,” said Abby’s mother Jennifer.
And what she wants is to swing is $2,000 more before the end of the summer to hit the $5,000 mark.
If you want to catch Abby in action, she will be at the Extreme Bullriding Show in Geneva on July 18th and back in her hometown of Aurora the following week.
Of course, she will be out on the bleachers raising money for cancer research.
